Finally



In conclusion Maruis

played an important role in the novel, his theme was clearly patronized and he demonstrated that anyone could overcome poverty. Working hard and having hope makes you change. Many obstacles will come but you have to overcome them to reach your goals. Marius suffer but Victor Hugo made in clear that Marius role in the novel was important a repersented an important theme Degradation of men by poverty.


Maruis was hurt in combat but Jean Valjean could see the love his daughter Cosette fell for him was to big. Jean decides to help Maruis after he got hurt since the barricade had been destroyed. Marius was taken under the sewers by Jean and left in his grandfather house. He had been taken care by them for many months. Maruis always asked to see Cosette and little by little Marius grandfather started to accept her. Cosette and Marius decided to marry but Maruis was still not aware of Jean’s identity. When Marius became aware it was to late Jean was sick and very close to death. Jean told Maruis to take care of his daughter and to make her happy. "Cosette and Marius fell on their knees, overwhelmed choked with tears, each grasping one of Jean Valjean’s hands. Those august hands moved no more”. (Hugo 399) Jean's time had come after many years he passed away.

Eponine and Cosette


Maruis doesn’t only portray an important theme in the novel Les Miserables, but he also changes the life of two important characters in the novel Eponine and Cosette. Marius falls in love with Cosette the girl who Jean saved from starvation and suffering. They fall in love and their love also makes both of them suffer after she is taken away by Jean. “Cosette: I had to run away, and it was like a dream/ I saw him once, the dream was true/I saw him once, and once will do!” (Love Montage/ I saw him once) when Cosette arrives to Marius life he changes .He was a lawyer but was also a revolutionary. As Cosette leaves, Marius becomes a member of the barricade in one of his fights he is saved by Eponine who takes a bullet for him. Eponine was madly in love with Marius but she knew Marius only had eyes for Cosette. Eponine is in the floor when Marius holds her and all Marius could say was “Hush-a-bye, dear Eponine I don't feel any pain You won't feel any pain A little fall of rain A little fall of rain Can hardly hurt me” (A Little fall of Rain)

LOVE

After all the difficult times Marius has to go through and all the obstacles he had to over come he finally was having a happy ending. Marius was reunited with Cosette. The theme Maruis portrayed contributed to the authors tone demonstrating one of the main themes. Victor Hugo shows different point of views thought out his novel. For Marius it was difficult to find that bright light which brought him back hope and will. But Cosette arrives in his life and his world changes she brings hope to his life and a feeling of love, and Marius gives Cosette his entire heart. Even when Maruis was in poverty he used his best cloth so that Cosette would even give him a glare. “Marius took from his closet his new coat, his new pantaloons, his new hat, and his new boots” (Hugo 192) Even when his economical life was in a difficult position he tried to look good for Cosette. Cosette meant the world to Maruis and their love was truthful.

Degradation of Men by Poverty


One of the most important themes shown in the novel Les Miserables was the degradation of men by poverty. Marius plays an important role in the novel representing this theme. Marius came from a wealthy family but, because of political issues he left his grandfather’s house seeking for change. Marius started his new life from scratch. “He had undergone everything, in the shape of privation; he had done everything, except get into debt. Rather than borrow, he did not eat. He had had many days of fasting.” (Hugo 184) Victor Hugo emphasizes the importance of them by showing, how someone who has everything they can ask for can lose it all. Marius suffers hunger and many other things. The hard decision Marius took after he left his house made him characterize the theme degradation of man by poverty. Marius is in a situation in which hope is lost little by little and there are so many obstacles which make you struggle in order to reach your goal. Victor Hugo demonstrates this struggle in Marius step by step he starts to overcome his obstacles but in order to reach his goals he has to fight against hunger, searching for hope, and his ideals.

Introduction Marius


No one’s life is written in a stone, things can always change and people can find a new start to things that don’t go well. Marius from the novel Les Miserables written by Victor Hugo is a perfect example of how you can change your path through life and, how things you don’t expect come when you mostly need a change. The novel portrays the time period where there were many political changes and problems. One of the main themes of the novel is the degradation of man by poverty this is reflected in many characters of the novel, but most importantly in Jean Valjean and Marius. Jean Valjean was an ex convict who came out of the galley’s in search for a new life. He suffered of starvation and was sent to the galleys for stealing a loaf of bread. He change his life and became a better person throughout the novel he help Fantine a woman y agonization close to death, her last wish was for Jean to find her daughter and take care of her is if she was Jean’s. Jean and Cosette are like father and daughter. Marius falls in love with Cosette. Marius was born into a wealthy family, but he changes his life after having political differences with his grandfather. He leaves his house and starts a new life but as his journey starts, he fell crazy in love with Cosette.

Marius and Cosette


  • Marius started to see Cosette in the Luxembourg. He always saw a girl with her father and started to see her beautiful and wanted too see her as many times he could. he even dressed up for her. "I knew I loved you before I met you, I think I dreamed you into life". This is a short explination on how their love starts. I knew I love You- Savage Garden
  • Marius sent love letters to Cosette so they could meet each other and expresse what they felt. The love they feel for each other is so great that not even words an explain.when Marius was with her her beauty and love just grew bigger. "You're the one I wanna hold,I wont let another minute go to waste,I want you and your beautiful soul". They both wanted their love to last these verses give a short explination on what the both felt. Beautiful Soul-Jesse McCartney

Fantine

FANTINE

She had a bastard daughter called Cosett.
  • She was poor and couldn't maintain both her and Cosett economically, and left to find a job.


  • She left Cosett with a family, the Thénardiers, and sent them money each month in order for them to take care of her daughter.

  • Fantine was the voice of starvation of women in the novel Les Miserables.


1. Fantine worked in M. Madeleines's factory
2. Fantine told M.Madeleine to take care of her daughter Cosett before she passed away.

M. Madiliene wins as mayor of the town of M-. He helped everyone he could ,he changed his idenity to show people he was a better person. He also became a rich man and his luck started to change . this ist the representation of both of this images.


  • Trial repersent when Jean Valjean is disguised as M. Madeliene and they are acusing another man having his identity.
  • Madeliene steps up and says "I'm am Jean Valjean".

The loft of bread repersents the reason why Jean Valjean went to the galley's.

He stold a loft of bread because of hunger and his destination after that were the galley's.

Prison is the repersentation on the 19 years Jean valjean spent their. He lost hope and tried to escape many time but was setenced for more years.

This picture repersents the silver that Jean Valjean stold from the bishop's home. Thy he is brought back and the bishp tells him he gave it to him in order for him to do good.
