Maruis was hurt in combat but Jean Valjean could see the love his daughter Cosette fell for him was to big. Jean decides to help Maruis after he got hurt since the barricade had been destroyed. Marius was taken under the sewers by Jean and left in his grandfather house. He had been taken care by them for many months. Maruis always asked to see Cosette and little by little Marius grandfather started to accept her. Cosette and Marius decided to marry but Maruis was still not aware of Jean’s identity. When Marius became aware it was to late Jean was sick and very close to death. Jean told Maruis to take care of his daughter and to make her happy.
